Rules of Engagement
To graduate from this course, you must accomplish the following:
Attend all sections of the course Monday-Friday 0830-1230 CT, without exception. (note: your leadership should have already assisted you in this by clearing you of all of your work duties during class hours and you should not have any mandatory appointments to attend. If you do have appointments and you cannot remove yourself from them, you must withdraw. Please immediately send an email to support@sbcclearning.com and officially withdraw from the class at this time and we will notify the Command so they can consider you for an upcoming course due to prior commitments.)
Sign in to Zoom at the appropriate times each day: For Monday Only: 0800-0805 Central Time for “check-in.” (note: you will be placed in a temporary waiting room which will close promptly at 0815. Those who cannot make check-in will not be admitted to the class, barring technical issues). For Tuesday-Friday: 0815-0825 Central Time.
Complete all pre-work (reflection/action plan questions) on the days they are assigned.
Technical Requirements
To attend this course, you must ensure the following technical requirements are met:
Use only a personal/commercial (non-government) computer or tablet (no phone). In general, Chromebooks are not recommended as some of their internal systems may be incompatible with Zoom.
Only use commercial WiFi/Internet (this course cannot be completed over government WiFi as it is traditionally incompatible with Zoom).
Verify you have tested both the microphone and camera on your device and both are working. A headset/headphones is recommended.
Perform an Internet speed test (https://www.speedtest.net/) and ensure you have results of at least 15MBPS download and 10MBPS upload (see graphic below for ways to increase these numbers or email support@sbcclearning.com for assistance).
We will be conducting interactive activities. Have a 2nd device with Internet/cellular capability (preferably a phone) or separate browser window available so you can participate.
Have access to multiple browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.) on your device, should one be incompatible with the courseware.
UPDATE ZOOM: Zoom will prevent you from joining a meeting with some older versions of the software.
DOWNLOAD ZOOM IF YOU DON’T HAVE IT INSTALLED. https://zoom.us/download
CHECK YOUR ZOOM VERSION AND UPDATE YOUR APPLICATION Two easiest ways…
1) Open Zoom on your computer and go to the "initials" icon in the upper-righthand corner of the screen (it should have your initials on it with a 'dot' denoting your activity level), LEFT CLICK on that and you should see "Check For Updates." Follow the instructions thereafter.
OR 2) Go to https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362233-Updating-Zoom-to-the-latest-version and choose the best example for your device. Email support@sbcclearning.com for assistance.
Student Conduct
You are expected to:
Attend class from home, or other internet location that may be more convenient. However, you must not attend while at work or in a work location.
Turn off or relinquish access to any/all “1st Sgt devices” (cell phones, email) during course hours; work cell phones should be transferred to their temporary replacement for the duration of the course
Wear civilian clothes (i.e. no uniforms, unit insignia).
Minimize any distractions or responsibilities during class time -- the course includes a great deal of student dialogue so you must be in a location where you can speak freely and without interruption.
Treat the educational environment with professionalism and decorum. Do not do anything in the online environment you would not do if you were TDY in a classroom or formal setting.
Ensure your Zoom display name is correct (first and last name, no rank) prior to entering Zoom each morning, as only recognized students are admitted to Zoom. If you need assistance changing your display name, see this Zoom article or email us at support@sbcclearning.com.
Daily Reflections/Homework
In addition to the pre-course assignment, there will be daily reflections, also using Google Forms.
These reflections must be completed on your personal device as this software is incompatible with government systems. As a second troubleshooting step, try a different browser.
Plan to spend 60-90 minutes each night thoughtfully completing these questions in preparation for the next day.
It is highly recommended you save a copy of your reflections/daily pre-work in a word document or similar note-taking application for easy reference throughout the week and as a back-up in case of technical glitches.
After submitting your responses, you will receive an email with a link to those responses (check spam/junk folder if you don't see this email). You can modify your answers using that link up until 0900 CT the Monday following course completion.
