Commercial Engagement
& Integration
Through our Commercial Engagement and Integration (CE&I) line of effort, we connect our MAJCOM partners with the nation's premier solution providers. By collaborating with startups, cutting-edge small businesses, tech incubators, accelerators, investors, and other government bodies, we've cultivated an expansive community focused on dual-use technology integration within the defense industrial base for our government clients. Our team pinpoints commercial capabilities that address existing USG client gaps. Funding these solutions primarily through SBIR grants, we ensure that the financial support does not detract from overarching DoW or USAF objectives and priorities.
The CE&I team also supports companies and technologies of interest to our clients by providing events to connect directly, such as through our technology Showcase. Commercial companies are invited to debut their technology solutions for the chance to present or demonstrate materials to our MAJCOM decision makers. All applicants receive feedback from our subject matter expert evaluators, and selected finalists pitch their innovation at a live event. Winners become part of the CE&I portfolio with access to continued consulting where our team helps them to identify funding and transition pathways to enable the fielding of valuable commercial solutions.
Customers: Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC), Air Education & Training Command (AETC)
SBCC holds a contract with AFGSC and AETC to support rapid acquisition decision-making through commercial engagement and integration. As part of this contract, SBCC is responsible for technology scouting and conducting due diligence on emerging technologies. However, SBCC does not control access to its MAJCOM partners, nor do government contracting regulations permit it to do so. Any individual or company can directly engage with AFGSC or AETC, presenting initiatives they believe align with its mission and seeking support for SBIR or other contracts—without any requirement to interact with SBCC.

A US government client was preparing to spend $2M–$5M replacing radios; our team identified and solved the issue for approximately $500 through tech scouting and vetting research.

SBCC coordinated an Air Force-wide, AETC-led effort to replace legacy flight scheduling and training management systems, built on a common operational platform and tied to the USAF data fabric, enabling rapid integration and adaptability for the total force.

SBCC accelerated AFGSC c-sUAS modernization through rapid deployment of SEMPRE-enabled resilient airfield defense and multi-sensor operational awareness capabilities, supporting immediate operational fielding under a $10M+ rapid acquisition effort, directly impacting Ellsworth AFB and soon other AFGSC installations.
