Kirsten Nemish

Kristen Nemish is the AFGSC Site Director at Trailhead Leadership Institute that provides leadership education courses for SBCC. Kristen retired as a Colonel after over 25 years in the United States Air Force serving through various assignments in missile operations, staff and command positions. She culminated her career as the Deputy Commander for the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center.

Kristen served as an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) operator in support of nuclear operations, for the majority of her career, beginning at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana. She instructed initial training courses at Vandenberg SFB, as well as Squadron Officer School at Maxwell AFB. She was also joint qualified at United States Strategic Command as a Strike Advisor while advising and assisting POTUS on the Nuclear Decision Handbook. Kristen spent two tours on the Air Force Global Strike Command headquarters staff managing senior leader development, as the Senior Executive Officer to the Commander and as the Deputy Inspector General. She commanded the 10th Missile Squadron at Malmstrom, AFB and the 91st Operations Group at Minot AFB, finishing her career at the Nuclear Weapons Center at Kirtland AFB and retiring in September 2024.

Kristen is married to Lt Col (retired) Mark Nemish. They have two children, Emma and CJ, and live in Shreveport, Louisiana. She enjoys cooking and baking, listening to audiobooks, going to concerts and watching Emma and CJ pursue their passions. Kristen holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio Northern University, a Masters of Arts in Human Resource Management from Troy University and a Masters of Military operational Art and Science from Air Command and Staff College.
